The International Coalition for Energy Storage and Innovation Conference (ICESI2020)
Energy storage is among the top priorities for current and future energy infrastructure and modern technologies. Although the need and significance of energy storage are widely recognized, there is no internationally recognized body that can function as a central platform authority to address the long term scientific and technological challenges for wide spread deployment of energy storage technologies on the electricity grid. Furthermore, there is a large gap between the market needs, the manufacturing industry, and the scientific community on the vision and the pathway forward to enable large scale adoption of storage technologies.
What is ICESI
The International Coalition for Energy Storage and Innovation (ICESI) is a new international professional organization focusing on the science and technology challenges for grid scale energy and renewable energy integration.
The conference will cover three full days with a distinguished speaker, 2 plenary speakers and 42 invited speakers.
The organising committee are pleased to announce that they have secured the services of the 2019 Nobel Laureate in chemistry Prof Michael Stanley Whittingham, the Founding Father of rechargeable lithium batteries, as the distinguished speaker.
"Stan" is a professor of chemistry and director of both the Institute for Materials Research and the Materials Science and Engineering program at Binghamton University. he is a key figure in the history of the development of lithium batteries discovering the intercalation electrodes in 1970s and thoroughly described the concept of intercalation reaction for rechargeable batteries in the late of 1970s. He holds the original patents on the concept of the use of intercalation chemistry in high-power density, highly reversible lithium batteries.
Announcement – Call for papers
The 2020 International Coalition for Energy Storage and Innovation annual conference (ICESI 2020) will be jointly held with the Royal Australian Chemical Institute in Sydney, Australia at the Dockside Function Centre, March 1-4, 2020. The organizing committee would like to invite you to attend and present your recent work at this event.
ICESI is currently the only international organization that focuses on the scientific and technological challenges for the development and deployment of scalable energy storage technologies for electric grid and emerging market applications. ICESI annual conferences have a great tradition and unique style of blending fundamental research with practical applications to provide a vibrant mix of discussions on electrochemical power conversion and energy storage. We are proud to co-organize the 2020 annual conference with RACI, the professional body for the chemical sciences in Australia.
ICESI2020 will include an incredible list of invited speakers presenting across the following themes
- New concepts and systems,
- Advanced high-performance materials,
- Modelling and simulation of energy storage components and systems,
- Data driven energy storage research,
- Commercial battery manufacturing, controls, characterization, testing, and recycling,
- Safety by design
- Energy storage system deployments and market prospects.
There will also be a special session for early career scientists on 5th March at UNSW Sydney Kensington Campus combined with a tour of the VRB installation in the Tyree Energy Technologies Building
